One of the top examples of Petite Sirah coming from California is Jaffurs' 2013 Petite Sirah Thompson Vineyard. Aged in a combination of French and American oak, it's saturated inky purple color leads to a young, unevolved and jammy wine that's overflowing with notions of plums, pepper, liquid violets and crushed rock. Full-bodied, tannic, ripe and beautifully concentrated, it desperately needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will keep for 15+ years. (JD, 08/2015)

The 2013 Petite Sirah Thompson Vineyard is so primary tastes like it just came out of the barrel! Inky blue/purplish fruit, cassis, blackberry jam, dark spices and leather are all fresh, vibrant and pure. A wine of significant potential, the 2013 needs time in bottle to lose some of its baby fat. It is impressive, though, even at this early stage. The Petite spent ten months in French and American oak barrels, 16% new (all American). This range of new releases from Craig Jaffurs is full of highlights. The whites, which had a bit of residual sugar last year, are drier and also more focused, while the Syrahs are consistent and, at the top level, simply brilliant. Its always a pleasure to taste through this lineup. I can't recommend the wines highly enough. (06/2015)
