The Prisoner Description

Robins

The 2023 Prisoner Cabernet Sauvignon palate is soft and plush, unfolding into a full, generous mid-palate and a sturdy, lingering finish. Ripe black and blue fruits dominate, with layers of cassis, blackberry pie, and deep purple plum, complemented by hints of bay leaf, cracked pepper, and crushed herbs that evoke a true sense of place. Integrated oak brings melted spice notes and toasted vanilla bean, seamlessly framing and elevating the vibrant fruit profile while adding subtle minerality for depth and complexity.

The heat that we experienced in 2022 lead us to make some fermentation management adjustments. While some vineyards were more heavily impacted than others, we did see some great quality in many of our vineyards that allowed us to make a great Cabernet in 2022. We saw a little less tannin in the vintage which led us to conduct pump overs more frequently, and some extended maceration to get the power while maintaing approachability that signature to the prisoner wines. After 21-27 days of skin contact, grapes were pressed and wines were put down to barrel in a mix of French and American oak. The wine was rack and returned twice to blend and aged for 16 months before bottling.
