Auctioneer Description

WB

This masterful blend reveals a striking dark ruby hue, delicately transitioning to a lighter ruby rim.
The nose bursts with ripe black fruit aromas, interlaced with enticing hints of cedar, roasted coffee,
clove, black olive, bay leaf, and delicate violets. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, offering a
harmonious balance of fresh and lush black fruit flavors. Well-structured tannins and vibrant acidity
contribute to its elegance, leading to a long, lingering finish that unfolds with layers of fruit and a
nuanced, spice-driven complexity.
This wine showcases the essence of Napa Valley, with grapes
sourced from the region's most prestigious AVAs and hand-picked
at peak ripeness from vines rooted in volcanic and nutrient-rich
alluvial soils. The result is a refined and elegant expression of Napa’s
signature style, perfectly balanced and embodying the qualities that
have made the area world-renowned. The vinification process
involved a warm fermentation, with the juice spending two weeks
on the skins to extract deep color and complex flavors, followed by
a gentle press and strategic pump overs. Inoculated yeast ensured
consistency, and the fermentation took place in tanks for optimal
precision. The wine was then aged for twelve months in French oak
barrels, adding depth and sophistication. Bottling was completed on
September 30, 2024, capturing the essence of the vintage.
Michael Broadbent, the 24th Master of Wine, had a rich history in the
wine business. His book Wine Tasting was the first publication
devoted to the discipline and set the standard for how wine is
professionally evaluated. Broadbent wrote notes on over 90,000
wines and had a monthly column in Decanter magazine for 36 years,
but he is probably best known for pioneering wine auctions. He was
the founder of Christie’s wine department in 1966, and partnered
with Robert Mondavi to start the Napa Valley Wine Auction in 1981.
The Auctioneer is a tribute to the great Michael Broadbent, and it is
a wine he’d be proud to drink in good company.
