Winemaker Notes

Very intense red cherry color. On the nose, aromas of blueberries, ripe cherry, and cassis with nuances of Mediterranean scrubland, mint, black pepper and cinnamon everything balanced with a floral character. Flavorful on the palate with firm and elegant tannins and leaving a great fresh sensation.

The 2019 Culmen is a blend of 87% Tempranillo and 13% Graciano sourced from the 1959-planted vines in Pago El Rincón, Rioja Alta. Aged for 22 months in oak barrels, this garnet wine reveals aromas of wild herbs, sour cherry and thyme, complemented by hints of mint and bay leaf. On the palate, it is dry, rich and bold, with fine-grained tannins leading to a loosely structured mouthfeel. This is a complex and savory Rioja.

A modern, deep, concentrated Rioja reserva that shows plenty of baked black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate, tar and dark spices. Full-bodied and structured, with fine-grained tannins and a long, juicy finish. This will age well. Drink or hold.

Deeply coloured, with aromas of light cedar, herbs and red fruits. In the mouth the wine is very powerful, piquant, full-bodied, with citrus acidity and strong tannin. As the years pass, the proportion of Graciano in Culmen increases (here up to 13%), underscoring the dark spiciness on the palate. 2019 was an excellent year in Rioja, reflected in the intensity of the wine. As such it's still too young to give its full expression, hence the lower score at present. The malolactic fermentation and ageing were in the same new French oak: 22 months in all, followed by 12 months in bottle before release.
