Winemakers Notes
ST. EDEN is based upon an 11-acre rocky knoll that is part of a beautiful estate located just north of the Oakville Crossroad. Eden is an historical reference to this region's designation on nineteenth century maps.
2019 Vintage Notes
St. Eden also underwent a record-late bloom. The remaining phenological events of the year followed suit, occurring later than at sister sites, due in part to the north-facing aspect of its slope. Contrary to the general vintage trend, yields here were lower than usual. Harvest—which spanned nearly three weeks and required 12 passes—began in the first half of September and concluded on October 9th.
The wine delves beneath a crisp, mineral surface into an ample richness that balances on the precipice of the hedonic. A momentary inflection on the midpalate elevates this intensity before subsiding in favor of a fresh, focused acidity that carries through the prolonged finish.
Critical Acclaim
100 points The Wine Independent
The BOND St Eden 2019 has a deep purple-black color. Vibrant notes of crushed blackcurrants, Morello cherries, and boysenberries leap from the glass, leading to hints of cardamom, baked plums, and forest floor, with a waft of bay leaves. The full-bodied palate is bright and pure, with a lively backbone and fine-grained tannins paving the way to the long, savory finish. (LPB, 04/2023)

A 4.4ha site on a knoll of the valley floor with iron-rich fractured volcanic soils made from 'hillside parent material', says Bob Levy, director of winemaking. Here is a wine that hits so many notes, every one nicely delineated, beginning with savoury black olive and wild herb aromas tinged with vanilla and cedar. The first sip reveals blackberry and red berry fruits, cigar box and minerality. Sculpted tannins etch themselves into the upper palate, while the mid-palate is all crushed stones. A real freshness takes hold through a long finish that hints at crushed coffee beans, turned earth and dried flowers. (JC, 06/2022)
98 points Jeb Dunnuck
In the same ballpark qualitatively, the 2019 St. Eden comes from a cooler site and volcanic soils. It has a darker, medium to full-bodied, incredibly complex profile that offers abundant cassis-like fruit, notes of graphite, flowers, violets, and tobacco, integrated acidity, polished tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s another singular, incredibly balanced, complete wine from this team. Hide bottles for 4-6 years and enjoy over the following three decades. (02/2023)
98 points James Suckling
Flamboyant aromas of oak tree, dried flowers, violets and black mushrooms. Full-bodied with juiciness and depth of fruit and acidity. Dusty tannins and such length. Warmth and crushed-stone character. Extremely long and creamy. Firm and intense. This needs five or six years to come around. (03/2022)
98 points Wine Advocate
From an iron-rich site just north of the Oakville Crossroad, the 2019 St. Eden boasts effusive aromas of ripe cherries and briary raspberries framed by subtle cedar shadings. Full-bodied, silky, plush and long, this is a terrific all-around effort that deserves a few years in the cellar and should drink well for at least two decades thereafter. (JC, 03/2023)
96+ points Vinous
The 2019 St. Eden is another wine the shows a move towards greater focus and energy in these wines. There's plenty of the classic St. Eden opulence, but also a good deal of tension. The 2019 has shut down mightily post-bottling, which is likely a very good sign for its long-term prospects. In fact, the St. Eden is one of the most reticent of the Bond 2019s, something that was rarely, if ever, the case previously. Dark fruit, gravel, mocha and dried herbs build into the long, substantial finish. (AG, 10/2022)
