The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale is a dense, potent offering from Castellare. Black cherry, licorice, new leather, spice and dried flowers emerge from the glass. These 40-plus-year-old vines yield an especially muscular, virile Riserva. The 2021 spent 20 months in French oak, one-third new and two-thirds used, an approach that works so well for this bottling.

A focused, flavorful and structured red with notes of cherries, dark plums, dried oregano, roasted meat and baking spices. It’s medium-to-full-bodied with plush tannins. Dense core of fruit on the palate with a serious character throughout. Focused and flavorful, with a long, compact finish.
Winery Notes
This riserva is a brilliant ruby red color with garnet highlights. On the nose aromas of cherries, red plums, and currants are layered over notes of earth, rose petals, and leather. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied showing excellent structure with firm, integrated tannins and plenty of spice on the long finish.
