Likely no one has planted more Russian River Valley vineyards than Jim Pratt, who built his reputation by perfectly matching Pinot Noir clones to site. Split equally between plantings of clones 114 and 115, this vineyard represents the culmination of his over 30-year winegrowing career. Clone 114 is soft and forward with a lovely texture and Clone 115 contributes aromatics and structure for good cellaring potential; these Dijon Clones are a winning combination. La Follette is the exclusive producer of this single-vineyard Pinot Noir. The grapes are destemmed and left to cold soak for 8 days undisturbed, then they undergo native yeast conduct primary and secondary fermentation. The wine was punched down twice a day. The wine is then aged 11 months in 27% new French Oak barrels.
Aromatically the wine is fruit-forward with a nose full of ripe cherries, blackberries, and wet topsoil. On the palate, the wine is well layered with rich baking spices, mixed fruit flavors, and deliciously balancing acidity.
