Historical records indicate that Carignan arrived in Chile between 1928 and 1947 to complement wines made with the País grape variety. For decades, it was relegated to blends in bulk wines until, in the 1980s, Miguel Torres, with his newly acquired stainless steel tanks, dedicated himself to revitalizing it. Thus, in 1996, Miguel Torres launched his first Carignan under the Cordillera label, beginning the story of one of our winery's most renowned wines.
It wasn't long before producers of this grape variety demonstrated the undeniable quality of their wines, leading some of them to come together in 2009 to create the first appellation wine in Chile. In 2010, these producers, including Miguel Torres, signed the first declaration of commitments, and VIGNO began to take shape. VIGNO's objective is to improve the positioning of the Maule Valley through a differentiated offering based on the development of character wines from old vines planted under dry conditions.
