WINEMAKER NOTES
Bud break began at the beginning of April, ahead of
historical averages. The weather at bloom, was hot with dry
winds. The key factor of the vintage, however, came at the
end of June, when a heat dome descended upon the Walla
Walla Valley and all of the west coast. It shattered all
previous temperature records. Temperatures did cool down
in September and October, allowing for extended hang time,
resulting in ripe, beautifully structured fruit.

For me, it’s not okay to simply create a wine that is
interesting, I want to create a wine that surpasses each
previous vintage, that can compete on a global scale. The
Classic, 2021 does just that. Wet gravel, Bay leaf, fresh cut
cedar, cassis, kirsch, rosemary, worn leather and fresh mint.
It’s regal, it’s elegant, it is the closest I know to perfection
for the kind of Bordeaux-styled wine I am trying to create.
The wine is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and equal parts Cabernet
Franc and Petit Verdot.
