Winemakers Notes
Winemaking can be magic when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That’s why we created Andronicus, a perfect blend of the five Bordeaux varietals, plus somethign extra, that together form a dynamic wine and mouthwatering value. Young vine fruit from our Estate Vineyards form the backbone of this vivacious wine. Bright, crisp, Merlot from the Carneros Hills adds herbed cherry fruit note and silky texture, red currant spiced Malbec from Calistoga provides aromatic lift, and the Petite Verdot from the eastern foothills gives the wine a dark spice bite in the finish. It’s an ideal Napa Valley blend for both the wine connoisseur and novice alike.
Vintage Notes
A long Winter and Spring notable for near record rainfall led to a later than usual bud break in the beginning of the growing season, sunny warm conditions during May soon had the vines starting bloom with near perfect conditions. Even temperatures throughout the Summer provided the ideal conditions for the growing berries to develop flavor, retain acidity and build up phenolic characteristics. Veraison occurred in early August for most varieties, followed by some appropriate heat to help the fruit finish the season. Each vineyard and varietal in the blend was picked over 42 days to ensure each expresses the lively and accessible character of the fruit at the forefront.
Wine Profile
The Titus Andronicus red wine from 2023 over delivers with aromatics and flavor. The nose is full of ripe plum, blackberry compote, Bing cherry, cherry pie, and a subtle vermouth character. Cocoa nib, espresso, and café crème oak notes complement the fruit char acters.
The palate is highly structured with velvety tannins and moderate acidity. The finish is smooth and with dark fruit flavors that linger on the palate
