Originating from a selection of parcels planted in alluvial, sandy, granite soils with calcareous content, the 2021 Finca Piedra Infinita was vinified in concrete with whole clusters and aged for 12 months. It opens with a commanding, complex and ceaselessly evolving nose initially dominated by dusty, savory, spice-driven aromas, then blossoming with the classic purple flower notes characteristic of Paraje Altamira. The palate perfectly balances a seductive, sumptuous texture with remarkable richness and discernible finesse, culminating in a quietly explosive, long, intensely vibrant finish. This wine showed exceptional dynamism in the glass, constantly melding luscious black fruits, refined minerality and immaculately polished tannins in a punchy yet weightless, all-encompassing and captivating package. It is a simply magnificent example of contemporary Argentine Malbec. (ML)

This wine has brilliant fruit that makes it one of the best expressions of the superlative 2021 vintage—a cool year that allowed the malbec to ripen gradually, giving rise to tremendously expressive wines like this one. The firm tannins come from the calcium carbonate and cause the chalky sensation that envelops the palate, while the floral and herbal aromas and flavors lend complexity. The 38-hectare Piedra Infinita estate surrounds Zuccardi's austere concrete winery in Altamira. The vineyard has been divided into more than 66 blocks according to soil characteristics, variety, and the genetic material of the vines. This is a selection from those vineyards.

Blackberries, terra cotta, sandalwood, wood bark and graphite. Full-bodied with a very tight tannin structure that gives this wine tension and power, but it's more electric that muscular. Lightly salty with hints of cherries. Flavorful and true.

Hailing from a cool vintage in the Uco Valley, the 2021 Finca Piedra Infinita, from Paraje Altamira, was bottled after one winter in concrete vats. As with Zuccardi's other wines, it delivers a naturally primary profile that embodies what can be achieved with un-oaked wines in the southern Uco Valley. This purple-hued Malbec reveals balsamic herbs undertones, intense violet and floral aromas and notes of plum and blueberry. Dry and compact on the palate, with chalky tannins and fine fruit expression, it delivers exceptional concentration and a rich, long-lasting, fruit-driven finish. Just fabulous. (JH)

Piedra Infinita uses grapes from eight different parcels in Paraje Altamira, but excludes Gravascal and Supercal. Intensely perfumed, inky and unwooded, it has plenty of zip and limestone freshness, laurel and violet aromas and a palate of pomegranate, blackberry and pink grapefruit. A Malbec for people who don’t like oak or excessive sweetness.
